Blog post 9: interface & e-lit
According to the book, an interface serves as a vital bridge between a project’s content and its users. Through clear and concise design and navigation, it communicates the site’s purpose and functionality showing its users how to use and access its features correctly. A good interface will enhance the user’s experience, promoting satisfaction and engagement. The first hypertext, My Body, a Wunderkammer by Shelley Jackson includes aspects of this “genre” of literature. I think this one did a really great job of giving us a responsive design. Even though there were directions on what to do I think the interactivity and clearness of what to do was great. I think this design is definitely able to be seen effectively from all platforms. I think that the second hypertext, Depression Quest by Zoe Quinn does a great job of creating a point of view and paying attention to the narrative. I think that this helps the viewer understand and I guess kind of creates a relationship between the website and the viewer. For my web presentation, I'm going to make sure I include a responsive design to ensure that the presentation is accessible and functions across various devices. I also want to maintain consistency in the design elements to create a clear and cohesive look.
From Lindsay: I really liked how you described interface in a way that clearly communicates its purpose and further understanding! By reading your blog post, I was able to further my understanding of interface and develop a very clear understanding of what it is and furthermore, how I can apply it to my final project. From your post, the idea of including a responsive design in the web presentation is one that I am also going to use. This blog post helped me to start creating a vision as to what I will include in my web presentation, and provided clear insight as to how interface will greatly contribute to this project as well.
ReplyDeleteAs you mentioned My Body, a Wunderkammer is a perfect example of responsive design since it guides users through its interactive features while maintaining clarity. This increases user satisfaction by making the experience easy and creating a well-designed interface. Similarly, Depression Quest effectively utilizes UI components to express narrative viewpoint, generating a distinct interaction between the spectator and the material. I like that you have used this chapter to help you determine how you plan to set up your own final website and I agree. This chapter definitely helped me to further understand the importance of user availability as well as presentation when creating a platform that is looking for good feedback.
ReplyDeleteI found this response very clear and helpful for me. You perfectly described the importance of interfaces in bridging the gap between a project’s content and its users. The examples of "My Body, a Wunderkammer" and "Depression Quest" illustrate the important role of interface design for users. Your description is very helpful and is going to be really useful for me when designing my own project.
ReplyDeleteI love your response! I knew what interfaces were before reading, but learning that a good or bad interface could make or break the functionality and interactability of the site is very interesting. It reminds me of that day in class where we worked to distinguish good websites vs. bad websites, we were essentially basing our opinions off of the functionality and aesthetic of the interface.
