Blog Post 8 Curation Plan
Logan = So far for this assignment I went along and helped by taking pictures on my phone.I have also helped write descriptions for some of the works of art. I am planning to take a couple more pictures with my group and really focus on adding the website's links to the virtual map. The last thing i'm going to focus on is making the website look uniform.
Jason- For this project I’ve been trying to help in every way I can. I’ve been focusing on writing a lot of descriptions for the murals as well as creating the points on the map. I’m making sure I include a picture, a description, and an icon representing each sculpture. Unfortunately I missed out of the class where we took pictures but I’m hoping to get involved next time we go out since we still have some photos that need to be taken. Lastly, I've been thinking about any questions I may want to ask the Art director for our meeting with him on tuesday.
Mark: What I did for the project so far is I helped photograph the many murals and sculptures around campus. I have also worked on the descriptions for the art and added it to the map. I've been adding icons and other details to the map to make it look professional. What comes next is I will be photographing the other art that was further away from the close proximity we were in for the first round of photos. I will also be thinking of questions to ask for Tuesday's meeting with the director. We will collaborate with a shared google doc for this process. What changed with our working process is that we originally were going to add multiple layers for each work, however, we ran into a roadblock with this approach and resorted to each category into each layer. These are murals, sculptures, and bike racks.
Olivia: On Tuesday in class we had another day of media collection where I worked with Lauren to go around and take photos of murals indoors such as “Atomic Age” in Kingsbury Hall as well as sculptures or outdoor art pieces such as “The Red Wagon”. On Thursday in class I helped by adding to our shared document of photo descriptions and wrote brief histories and explanations of two art pieces and began adding them to our Google map.
Alexander:So far, I’ve helped with photography on our first day of photos, then I helped create and update the map, and as soon as the weather is right, I’ll head back outside for our final photos collection at the farther locations on campus.
Ava: I will be helping with writing the descriptions for the photographs, and helping organize all of the media and information we were given to link to each image. I will also help with the process of putting the map together.
Lauren: I took some of the photos on Thursday around campus as well as helping to write descriptions for some of the art pieces such as the Concord 101, 102, 103 sculpture, the Making These Walls Talk mural, and the Soon the Earth sculpture. I also took photos of the indoor murals around campus in Ham Smith, PCAC, DImond Library, and Paul College.
,
Lily: I helped find pieces to take pictures before break, and on Thursday I wrote a few descriptions for photographs, but I haven’t implemented them into the map yet. I used the UNH library database to find articles on each mural/sculpture, which I linked in the descriptions. I enjoyed learning about the different pieces, such as “Chain Hounds”. Researching the design process and inspiration for each artwork was very interesting.
Alexa: I took some photos last week of the sculptures outdoors. On Thursday, I wrote two of the descriptions that will eventually be put onto the map. I plan on writing more descriptions to make sure there’s one for each sculpture and mural. I also plan on putting some of the descriptions on the map.
Progress on the Project
Our project is coming along very nicely we have our workload spread out very evenly. This has allowed us to make great progress especially when it comes to our graph. We were going to take videos for the sculptures but we felt like that was disorienting and not worth putting on the map. I believe our project looks like we placed our locations pined with blue and white icons which is what that art department requested. We have to add the murals and some of the art from special collections into this graph. We are going to change the color of the icons to distinguish the differences between the sculptures and the other art.I feel like we are meeting the department's overall expectations. We are really ensuring that everything is looking professional. For different concepts of DH we used mapping, and unstructured data.Making a map was something that was brought up in the textbook and is the main overall focus for our project. And we received a lot of data that was unstructured. Overall the project is coming together nicely.
