Blog Post 10
Last week in class we saw different platforms we can use for our project and how they all have a
different use and format. We learned about three different styles of websites with the first style
being collection. This style of website is focused on smaller projects and is primarily used in
classrooms. It can be used for smaller projects like our art curation project. Here you can put
images, videos, and archived text in to portray your message. According to the text the websites
associated with this are Omeka, Drupal, and Joomla, just to name a few. We can see that an
exhibit theme website focuses on a particular topic or theme. This would be extremely useful for
our upcoming project. Wix outline gives me the ability to put my data in very easily and gives
templates that are also easy to use. The last style that was discussed was publication which is for
writers to be able to import their thoughts and add the necessary accompanying hyperlinks.
Hyperlinks are very important and give the reader further context of what the author is trying to
say. We also incorporated this into our curation project. We know that interface has a lot to do
with design of a website and how easy it is to navigate a website which is going to be essential
for my website. In the final chapter we see how it’s important for your intellectual goals to be
met and to make sure any of the artifacts I have are analog, which takes time for digitization.
Making the website streamlined is also very important and a change that makes the site look
weird is not good. Documentation is also essential, making a journal to keep track of your data is
extremely useful and vital to the process. Also, putting documents into labeled fields is essential.
And, to sum up, we have to realize the afterlife is extremely important meaning the websites
links and overall look have to stay up to date.
