Blog Post 10: Web Presentation & Design

As we move into the presentation-focused stages of Digital Humanities, the topics that chapters 11 and 12 of our textbook cover are extremely crucial for conceptualizing and constructing our final web presentations.

Chapter 11 delves into various web presentation formats such as repositories, exhibits, and publications, each serving as a way to enhance user interaction and accessibility. This segmentation in web formats really shows the need for communication and explanation on websites and digital platforms in general. We explored various websites in class for creating and designing our own website and I liked a lot of them, but the one that I personally explored was “Cardd” which I really liked but the biggest issue is I can only create one page, so because of this I will instead be using Wix for my project. My choice of Wix for my final presentation is influenced by its simplicity and effectiveness in creating visually appealing sites. This goes with the chapter’s emphasis on the importance of design simplicity and user-centric interfaces. Wix’s streamlined design capabilities will allow me to present my DH project in a clean and easy way without it being too overwhelming for my audience.

Moving onto Chapter 12, the discussion on intellectual property creates a foundational role in the creation of digital content. The chapter talks about the necessity of considering copyright laws, usage rights, and fair use policies, which is going to be really crucial when I'm designing my own website. I will need to do a little more research on my website and see what it allows me to do in terms of copyright policies and limitations. Choosing which platform to use for this website design project is crucial since it reflects our understanding of interface usability as well as so many other topics we’ve covered in class. Wix really caters to these needs since it offers lots of customizable features while also not being too overwhelming or confusing for the user.

  1. Well done with your summary of the chapters. I think that I will use Wix as well, for some of the same reasons. I think the main concerns I have for my project that were brought up in the chapters are: customization, identifying my project as a success, how long I want the site to be up for, and export formats.

  2. I will be using WIx as well. I appreciate how easy to use it is. Not only that, but most of the features are free which is great for us. Fair use laws are the most annoying thing ever. It feels like it limits you heavily. Especially when you don't know how to credit them or forget to.
