Week 7 Blog Post
Logan = I'm planning on helping record the videos of the sculptures for the map. I also intended to help write little sections for the pieces of art in which I record. I'm going to take multiple videos to make sure I have an array of options. I'm also going to make a file for all of the videos.
Jason- For my portion of the project, I plan to help collect and utilize any data we find about the sculptures and murals. I’ll focus on organizing all the data and pulling out any important information we find online and using it on our map. I’ll help with the research and information portion of this project.
As of right now we have a document with all the websites and links we’ve found to any information on murals and sculptures around campus. It’s fairly disorganized, but as the project progresses, I’ll help to organize this cluster of data and pull out the important information that we will use on our finalized map.
Mark: I will as well be on the photography curation team. I will organize the photos and edit the videos. Put them into folders and insert them into the project. I will also be in charge of the updating and the communication process with the head of the art department to make sure the project is going the way he wants.
Olivia: I will also be helping with the collection of media including taking photographs of different pieces of artwork around campus and searching for information and images of old artwork from UNH. When it comes time to pool all of our media and collections I will help in organizing the different media into different sections for our map such as “murals”, “sculptures”, and “history of art”. If needed I will also help my team with curating information blurbs for each piece of art on the map so that the audience has an opportunity to learn about what they are viewing.
Alexander: I will help foremost with writing the descriptions for the photographs, and before that I will help to make sure our list of art locations is fully comprehensive. If help is needed with taking photography, i'll be happy to help, but with only two cameras in use I believe my best efforts will be spent organizing, detailing, and categorizing art projects.
Ava: I will be helping with writing the descriptions for the photographs, and helping organize all of the media and information we were given to link to each image. I will also help with the process of putting the map together.
Lauren: I will be taking some of the photos on Thursday around campus as well as helping to write descriptions for some of the art pieces. I will also try to take some videos of sculptures that would benefit from a 360 view of it to get a better perspective. If needed, I can also help with figuring out the inner workings of Google Maps!
Lily: I will be writing some of the descriptions for photographs, using the UNH library database to find articles on each mural/sculpture. I will also help put together the Google Map and some of the presentation aspects.
How this connects to DH
We are making an interactive map for the Art Department which is giving the audience structured data. This projects overall audience is people who want to see Unh’s murals and statues which are sprawled throughout our campus. This is significant because the person will be able to click on the point and see a video, and picture to learn more information about the piece of art. There is already a map however we are just going to make a new one that is up with the times. All which is stated above is what the clients are looking for. We are trying to emulate what North Eastern University has done but with a Wildcat twist. We are also going to stay in touch with the clients to make sure their expectations are being met.
I don't have your full plan document, but I know you've done a lot of organization already. Consider the reading from Chapter 8, maps. You're also going to want to organize your files, image names, etc. and compiling everyone's text (with who wrote it, etc.). Bring questions when we get back! But some good photos and start to organization! Have a plan for breaking up the work when we get back!
